about

In the early nineties I started practicing yoga and meditation. This had a big influence on the music I was playing. Not long after I started to play and study sitar and Indian classical music for many years with Pandit Ashok Pathak. After some years, while still studying, I wanted to express all these new influences into a new project and slowly the band Himalaya was formed. The sound of Indian raga's is present especially in the compositions with sitar. But jazz hasn't left, it is still there together with rock, folk and other world influences.

about

Mark Bogaerts Brussels, Belgium

I have been playing music for the last 40-50 years. I started with guitar, later came the saxophone and afterwards also the sitar. I also sing.
First I played more rock & popmusic, later on I evolved to jazz and improvisation and finaly I also played a lot of world-music.
I've been playing as a side-man in many bands and orchestra's and have also set-up several own projects and groups.
